If you've never heard Radiolab, I highly recommend giving it a listen. It's hands-down the best Sound Designed radio show on the air. It has also served as major Sound Design inspiration in my own projects.
Radiolab is a science-based NPR show out of WNYC. Jad Abumrad is the co-host & producer. He's also the one responsible for the majority of Sound Design & Music.

The loudest Cicada I’ve ever heard.
After a rain storm tonight, I heard what sounded like a weird jackhammer in my house. After walking around trying to trace the source, I realized it was the loudest Cicada I've ever heard. He (or she?) was halfway down the block! The Cicada was in a neighbor's back yard, so this was recorded from about 20 feet away!
